BA DeMorte's Faerytales

Started out as Musings and Funny thoughts with pictures videos and drawings thrown to keep things from being boring. Now I do character reviews to help keep you entertained.

The Funny Man:
Again I can’t top perfection. The character’s nickname is the perfect title for him. Rocco played by David Della Rocco in Boondock Saint’s 1and 2 is truly The Funny Man.
Rocco is the jester of the group. Quick with a joke or an insult. He is loyal and ready to help. His mouth does tend to get him in trouble and he also has an impulse control issue. (I hope he really tipped that dancer.) He is happiest when he can make those around him laugh.
Also like the jester, Rocco’s life is a dark and tragic. He doesn’t get any respect at work. (They set him up to die.) His girlfriend is a drug experiment in the making. The closest relationships he has is with the brothers and a cat named Skippy. (That didn’t end so well.) Even with the frustrations in his life, he still keeps hoping for something more. The brothers give him that and takes a hold of it and he embraces it proudly.
At first glance Rocco seems to be a moron. It’s more of the fact that he does things without thinking them through first. (Remember that impulse control issue?) He may seem flaky, but he is very good at thinking on his feet. He’s also very good at adapting when the situations change. (We’ll just forget that freak-out with the iron, albums, and the revolver.) He will stand with the brothers, and keep inspiring with his last breath. The brothers finally gave Rocco something he’s been looking for all his life: a cause.
So, as you watch the movies remember the Funny Man, and understand that there is a reason why the jester laughs with tears in his eyes. When you understand then like the Funny Man, you’ll get the joke.
